First we are going to look at hint 1, which always shows us a picture of what is involved in solving the overall problem. It also gives us information to focus on such as the decimal must be included in the answer, which many students forget. |

If we still don’t know what to do, we go to hint 2 where we see the relationship between the numbers and the actual gallons in the problem. We see 12.3 gal is a little more than 12. 12.3 is more than 12, and 14.1 is almost 14 gallons. |

At this point I’m going to choose to repeat the problem. I see again that I have a problem with different numbers and different pictures because the point of internet math is to teach the concept, not how to memorize answers. |
